The photo shown below was taken from the top of the pencil water tower at the corner of 5th and  Lee Streets in downtown Alexandria about 1920 to 1925. It shows (on the left) the old Rapides Parish Court House and the Rapides Parish Jail, as well as the Rapides Hotel. The old Red River Railroad tracks are shown in the background at Front or 1st Street, before the levee was built up
